Orientation programme for the newly-elected Members of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab – October 17-18, 2018

    In continuation of Pakistan institute for parliamentary Services’ (PIPS) initiative of holding capacity building workshops for the Honourable Members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, an orientation programme for the newly-elected Members of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab was organized by the Institute in collaboration with UNDP and SUBAI Pakistan from October 17th-18th, 2018, in Lahore. The key objective of the Two-Day orientation was to impart knowledge amongst the Honourable Members with regards to rules of Procedures, rules of Business, legislative process, role and powers of committees and oversight tools.

    The program commenced with Welcome remarks by Director General PDP & IT PIPS, Ms. Samer Awais, and SUBAI Team Lead, Mr. Christopher Shields followed by a brief round of introductions and Programme overview. First session of the day was on “Understanding Rules of Procedures and Rules of Business of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab” facilitated by DG Research and Parliamentary Affairs, Provincial Assembly of Punjab, Mr. Inayatullah Lak. The afternoon session was facilitated by DS, Provincial Assembly of Punjab, Mr. Khalid Mehmood, who shed light on the Legislative process carried out in the Assembly.

    Day two commenced with a lecture by Mr. Inayatullah Lak about role and powers of committees and the use of questions as an oversight tool. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Director General PDP & IT PIPS, Ms. Samer Awais in which she thanked UNDP, SUBAI and course participants for making this event a success.
