Orientation for Newly Elected Honourable Members of Provincial Assembly of Balochistan, Quetta, September 3rd, 2018

    A day long orientation programme for the Newly Elected Members of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan was arranged at the Assembly Secretariat in Quetta on September 3rd, 2018. The event was organized by Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in collaboration with UNDP and SUBAI Pakistan.

    The programme formally commenced with an inaugural ceremony hosted by the DG (PDP & IT) Ms. Samer Awais. Honorable Deputy Speaker Provincial Assembly of Balochistan, Sardar Babar Khan graced the occasion as Chief Guest. After recitation from the Holy Quran, Ms. Samer Awais, DG (Parliamentary Development Program & IT) welcomed the participants on behalf of the Institute and after a round of introductions gave a bird’s eye view of the programme to the participants. It was followed by remarks from the representatives of UNDP and SUBAI. The Honorable Chief Guest was then invited for his inaugural speech in which he appreciated the efforts of PIPS and emphasized on the importance of such orientations saying that there is dire need to educate the newly elected members regarding Parliament, its working, constitution and state building.

    The programme comprised of three sessions, covering Rules of Procedure and Working of the Provincial Assembly of Pakistan, working of committees and a separate knowledge sharing session on how to be an effective Parliamentarian. Members took keen interest during sessions and asked questions from the facilitators. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Executive Director PIPS, Mr. Zafarullah Khan
