On 14th August, 2017, The Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) arranged a dialogue on Youth Building Peace in connection with Youth Day 2017 at Preston University, Islamabad. Executive Director PIPS Islamabad, Mr. Zafarullah Khan while talking to more than 200 youth in guest speaker session highlighted that youth constitute major chunk of population in Pakistan and our country is considered as 5th largest youngest country in terms of youth population. He stressed that provision of basic services to youth including access to quality education & health care and employment can promote role of youth as active contributors to society. He emphasized over promotion of civic education and culture of dialogue among Pakistani youth to inculcate the values of active citizenship, tolerance, co-existence and peace. The speakers were unanimous of the view to involve youth actively in extra-curricular and sport activities through activation and strengthening of student societies. Speakers stressed that such avenues can serve as platform for training youth as future leaders of the country.
The panel also included Prof Dr. Javed Ashraf, Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad; Nadeem Akber, Director American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) Islamabad; Aoun Sahi analyst; Liaquat Shahwani civil society activist and Tahir Malik from National University of Modern Languages Islamabad.
