The Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) conducted a two hour round table session on Strengthening Oversight for Building Peace and Sustainable Development for Members of Provincial Assembly of Sindh and Government officials on November 25, 2019 in Rawalpindi at 10 am to 12 noon hosted by SSDO. Senior Director General (Research & Legislation) PIPS Mr Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka, conducted an interactive session on role of Members of Parliament in peace building in respective communities and constituencies in addition to utilization of oversight parliamentary tools available in Rules of Procedures of Provincial Assembly of Sindh such as question hour, committee scrutiny and calling attention notices to highlight the issues undermining peace and development. The PIPS roundtable session was attended by 35 participants including 25 MPAs from members across different parliamentary parties and high ranking officials from Sindh government departments of Home, Information, Youth Affairs, local government and Police. SSDO hosted the two day roundtable which saw sessions conducted by the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), NACTA, ISPR and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. “The session concluded with combined Qs and Answer session steered by PIPS Executive Director Mr Zaka and representative speakers from NACTA and Pakistan Peace Collective initiative of the Ministry of Information which saw absorbing participation and way forward from 25 MPAs. Syed Kauser Abbas, SSDO, presented the vote of thanks to conclude the proceedings.
