Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services hosted a delegation of 34 students and faculty members from the University of Gujrat for the Seminar on “Constitution and the Working of Parliament” at its main Campus in Islamabad on February 19, 2018. The students of MPhil and BS (Hon.) program represented the Department of History and Pakistan Studies, University of Gujrat.  The event began with National Anthem and the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Mr. Zafarullah Khan, Executive Director PIPS, during his remarks highlighted the role and importance of Parliament. He also highlighted the contribution of entire political leadership in putting their efforts to set the country on the development trajectory and to strengthen the democratic tradition in the country despite various challenges emanating from the political instability. He maintained that the tradition of condemning the political leadership on baseless grounds should be discouraged.

Mr. Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka, Director Research & IT PIPS, gave a comprehensive presentation on the “NATURE OF CONSTITUTION  and Working of Parliament– Pakistan’s indigenous narrative.” In a highly interactive session he engaged the students of history to develop understanding of the role and function of the Parliament of Pakistan. He deliberated on the nature of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan which is based on Islamic, federal, welfare and democratic principles. The vision of the founding fathers of Pakistan was highlighted with regard to Pakistan’s indigenous narrative.

Executive Director PIPS, Mr. Zafarullah Khan presented PIPS memento to the Head of Delegation, Mr. Mushtaque Ali Abbasi, faculty University of Gujrat. Ms. Fakiha Mahmood, Research Officer PIPS, moderated the session. The Seminar ended with vote of thanks by the Head of Delegation. A guided tour of Dastoor Gali, Senate Museum and the Monument at the Parliament House was also arranged for the delegation.
