PIPS Executive Director’s Session on “Parliament and Universities Cooperation in Imparting Parliamentary Democratic Education- Way Forward,” at Parliamentary Forum at Social Sciences Expo, Pakistan China Centre.

Asia’s biggest social sciences Expo held at Pak China Centre on Feb 24-25 hosted a Parliamentary Forum attended by around 60 participants from academia including university VCs, faculty members, educationists from all provinces, students and members of civil society at 3 pm in Room 206 on Feb., 24, 2016. The forum was presided by Honourable Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Mian Raza Rabbani and key note speakers included VC Haripur University Dr Nasir, PIPS Acting Executive Director/Director Research and Information Mr Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka while Mr Zafarullah Khan from Civic Education, Pakistan, moderated the absorbing session. Mr Zaka apprised the gathering that no less than 10 universities have commenced parliamentary studies as elective courses in existing social sciences degrees while 7 have approved parliamentary studies degree programmes in political science and law faculties and initiated research on parliamentary subjects in which PIPS is providing leading role in provision of publications and curriculum development. The speakers also emphasized need for academic independence and need to teach Constitution, Parliament and State Building and revival of History at schools level to culture an objective picture of country’s rich evolution of civilization. Honourable Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani made an inspiring speech stressing imperative need to give due academic independence to universities, revival of vibrant student unions as well as parliamentary education and outreach to the country’s vibrant youth.
