Orientation Programme for the newly elected Honourable Members of the Senate of Pakistan

The Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), in collaboration with the Senate Secretariat, organized an orientation programme for the newly elected Senators of the Senate of Pakistan on 6th June, 2024, at the Banquet Hall, Parliament House, Islamabad. A total number of twelve Senators attended the orientation programme.

The opening session commenced with Ms. Samer Awais, Director General of the Parliamentary Development Programme and Coordination (PDP&C), providing an overview of the Institute. Subsequently, Mr. Muhammad Anwar, the Executive Director of PIPS, officially inaugurated the session with a cordial welcome to all participants. He extended his congratulations to the newly elected members and stressed the pivotal role they hold in influencing the future of governance.

The programme proceeded with an enlightening session led by Mr. Muhammad Azam Sulehri, Deputy Secretary of Legislation at the Senate Secretariat, who delivered an overview of Parliamentary Oversight Tools. Following this, a session on the Legislative Process was conducted by Ms. Rabeea Anwar, Joint Secretary of HRM at the Senate Secretariat. Mr. Hafeezullah Sheikh, Additional Secretary of the Senate Secretariat, then conducted a session on Senate Committees, encompassing their significance, types, powers, and functions.

The programme concluded with an interactive session facilitated by Syed Hasnain Haider, Secretary, Senate Secretariat. This dialogue was lauded by the Distinguished Senators and highlighted the successful orientation of the parliamentarians, signifying the initiation of their legislative journey.
