Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) organised a training for the newly inducted officials of the National Assembly Secretariat from 25^th September to 20^th October at PIPS Campus Islamabad as per the directives of the National Assembly Secretariat. The training was divided into two groups. Group one comprised a total number of one hundred and twenty four participants including Assistants, UDCs and LDCs. The objective of this training was to familiarize the newly inducted officials with a basic understanding of the Parliament that would enable them to carry out their duties effectively at the Secretariat.

The Programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Mr. Khurram Shahzad, Assistant Director, PDP moderated the event and presented a brief overview of the programme. He explained the course outline to be taught during the four-week training including a basic overview on the Constitution of Pakistan, Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, Service Rules, Legislative and Non-legislative Business, and other significant topics related to the working of the Parliament. He then proceeded to invite the Worthy Executive Director, PIPS, Mr. Muhammad Anwar to express his welcome remarks. Mr. Anwar welcomed the participants to the training, expressing confidence that this valuable opportunity of learning will develop relevant skill-set and parliamentary knowledge required for effective performance of the officials’ role at the Parliament. He highlighted four primary responsibilities of officials at the National Assembly Secretariat including: working with the presiding officers, duties in the House, responsibility in the Committees and lastly assisting Honourable Members in their parliamentary work. He wished the participants good luck, hoping that this training will greatly benefit them in their job performance at the National Assembly Secretariat.

Mr. Shahzad invited Mr. Muhammad Mushtaq, Additional Secretary, National Assembly Secretariat to commence his first session on the Constitution of Pakistan. The programme will conclude on 20^th October, 2023.
