Meeting between PIPS and UNICEF

A three member delegation of UN agencies in Islamabad called on the Executive Director PIPS Mr. Asim Khan Goraya on Thursday morning 13th March 2025 to deliberate over the institutional steps forward on capacity building initiatives regarding health, nutrition and gender mainstreaming. Ms. Fahmida Iqbal Khan, Gender and Development Specialist UNICEF, Muhammad Salman, Nutrition Officer and Dr. Ayesha Sikandar, UN engaging stakeholders informed team PIPS of UN interventions viz a viz promotion of food fortification, laws on breast feeding and child marriages. They informed that due to 54 per cent women marrying at ages between 10 to 18 years, the children born are vulnerable to stunting and morbidity of some kind. With only 3.37 per cent budget allocation for women the challenge adds huge health burden on women and children causing deaths of precious lives. Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka, DG research and Ms. Samer Awais DG PDP also attended meeting with ED PIPS. Team PIPS reiterated that UNICEF can work together in identifying pool of experts which the institute may engage for capacity building initiatives so that all stakeholders may develop a comprehensive strategy to prevent hunger, disease and malnutrition amongst women and children all over the country.
