The Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) conducted a two day Workshop on “Parliamentary Business” for Ministerial Officials of various ministries of the Federal Government. The objective of this Orientation programme was to enable the participants to understand in better ways the Business of the House and thereby help in improved coordination between the Parliament and the Ministries. The workshop was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Executive Director of Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services. Mr. Khan Ahmad Goraya, followed by a session on Introduction to the Parliament of Pakistan and parliamentary authority by Director Research & IT, Mr. Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka. Next session was facilitated by Joint Secretary, Senate of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Anwar on the “Importance of Questions and the role of Council Officers w.r.t Questions.” The former Secretary, Senate of Pakistan; Raja Muhammad Amin joined the activity session on “How to respond to Questions” as Jury and shared his valuable comments with the participants to help and guide them to present the drafting of their questions in a better way. Deputy Secretary, National Assembly, Mr. Muhammad Mushtaq and Deputy Secretary, Senate of Pakistan, Ms. Rabeea Anwar conducted sessions on Non-Legislative Business and Functions/Roles of Committees respectively. The Executive Director, PIPS, Mr. Khan Ahmad Goraya; distributed certificates among 17 participants from National Assembly Secretariat and Ministries comprising Financial Division, Inter Provincial Coordination, Defence Production, Planning Commission, Privatization Division, Ports & Shipping, Water & Power and Parliamentary Affairs Division.”
