KOHA has the distinction of being the first open source integrated library management system, which includes all the main functions related to library management and D-Space is an open source software package that provides the tools for management of digital assets, and is commonly used as the basis for an institutional repository.
As desired by the National Assembly Secretariat, Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) organized a five-week long training course for Automation Centre’s Staff on “Total Library Solutions (TLS): Using KOHA & DSpace” from February 21 to March 26, 2018 at PIPS campus, Islamabad. The class duration comprised of 1.5 hours daily from 08:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The course objectives were to equip the participants with specific focus on KOHA Administration, Union Cataloging, D-Space and digital libraries. Mr. Sher Afzal Khan, Chief Librarian at Air University Islamabad, facilitated the whole course using multipronged strategy of delivering lectures followed by lab work. The closing ceremony was held on April 06, 2018. The worthy Executive Director PIPS, Mr. Zafarullah Khan distributed the certificates amongst the course participants. In his closing remarks, Mr. Zafarullah Khan desired that such learning collaborations should continue amongst parliamentary institutions.
